Early-career interest

Graduate Software Engineer

If you’re starting your software career and want to work on something useful in home energy, we’d like to hear from you. We’re gathering interest for future paid work on clearly defined software and testing tasks, with an experienced person responsible for guidance and review before anyone starts.

COMMITMENT

There is no confirmed start date yet, and we’ll agree hours around a defined project once suitable supervision and funding are in place.

LOCATION

Remote work may be possible by agreement, with working hours that allow regular contact with the person supervising your work.

ENGAGEMENT

This is an expression of interest in future paid early-career work. The project, compensation and named supervisor will be agreed before it starts.

What you’ll work on

  • You could help build a small feature or improve an existing one, working from a clear brief and checking your approach with an experienced engineer.
  • You could write tests, investigate a reproducible bug or improve documentation so the team can understand and maintain the software more easily.
  • You’ll be encouraged to explain what you have tried, ask questions when something is unclear and use feedback to improve the work.

What we want to achieve first

  • A first project should give you a manageable piece of software or testing work to complete, with a clear way to check the result.
  • You should receive useful feedback and be able to explain what you built, what you learned and what you would improve next.
  • Any work intended for use by the business should be reviewed by an experienced engineer before it is released.

The experience we’re looking for

  • You can show a course, personal or work project that demonstrates the basics of programming and explain which parts you built yourself.
  • You are willing to test your assumptions, investigate problems and ask for help when you reach the limits of your understanding.
  • You communicate reliably and are interested in learning how software is built and maintained for real users.

Other experience that could help

  • Some experience with web applications, APIs, automated tests or version control would give you a useful starting point.
  • An interest in energy or connected devices is welcome, and relevant personal projects are as useful to discuss as formal qualifications.

How we’ll get started

  1. Share a short introduction and a project you can talk us through, including what you learned while building it.
  2. We’ll contact you if we have suitable paid work and an experienced person available to supervise it.
  3. Before any project begins, we’ll discuss your learning needs and agree the work, pay, hours and support you can expect.

As we prepare Vardane’s first service in Ireland, you’ll work with Leon Kennedy and the people joining the team to turn your experience into a reliable product and service.
