Founding Technical Lead

What you’ll work on

• You’ll work with the founder to understand the tools and information already available, identify anything we still need access to and decide what to build first.
• You’ll design a simple way to bring equipment information and reported problems together, so the person handling an issue can see what needs to happen next.
• You’ll build a small working example that controls who can access information and handles missing data or failed connections sensibly.
• You’ll talk through your decisions regularly, helping the founder understand the options and leaving useful notes for whoever works on the system next.

What we want to achieve first

• By the end of the first project, we should understand the main technical questions, what we need from other people or systems and which step to take next.
• We should be able to demonstrate how one reported issue is recorded, followed up and checked before it is marked as resolved, using sample data or an export we have permission to use where needed.
• Your notes should explain what the example can do, what we still need to test and what further work would be needed.

The experience we’re looking for

• You have personally built and run backend services, connected different software systems or worked with software that communicates with physical devices.
• You can describe a time something failed in a live system, explain how you found the cause and show what you changed afterwards.
• You think carefully about who should have access to information and what should happen when data is missing or another system stops responding.
• You write clearly, work independently and are comfortable choosing a small piece of useful work that can be completed within the hours available.

Other experience that could help

• Experience with home energy, EV charging or connected industrial equipment would help you get familiar with the work more quickly.
• It would also help if you’ve worked with an early-stage founder and enjoy explaining technical choices in everyday language.

How we’ll get started

1. Start with a short application and an example of relevant work, making clear which parts you were responsible for.
2. If there’s a potential fit, we’ll have an introductory conversation and then spend some time discussing your technical experience.
3. The next step is a small paid exercise with a time limit agreed in advance, followed by reference checks with your permission.
4. If we decide to work together, we’ll agree the first paid project in writing, including the fee, work involved and what a successful result looks like.
